"Thank you so much for a wonderful three-day getaway. I am simply awestruck by the beauty of the JX Ranch. The horses and the riding was fantastic, and your hospitality was, well, so warm and welcoming that you can count on me coming back. Thanks so much for everything!"

"My sister and my daughter and I spent many hours on the computer researching "dude ranches". We found that most of the ranches were not our idea of how we wanted to spend spring break - we wanted the "true cowboy experience". We finally found the JX Ranch website and our decision was made! From the time we drove down the long ranch road to start our vacation until we drove down the long ranch road ending our vacation, our experience was everything we could have hoped for! From the bunkhouse to learning how to saddle, to the wonderful scenery, cattle round-ups, delicious suppers, awesome horses, branding, it has truly been a wonderful experience. Most of all our hosts Mimi and Tom, you life a hard but wonderful life out here fulfilling your dreams and you have made our dream come true and we thank you!"

JX  RANCH

accommodations & rates

Your cozy bunkhouse at the JX Ranch Headquarters sits nestled among the cedar and juniper below the Caprock, and is part of the JX Ranch Headquarters.  It is the old homestead house, dating back to the early 1900.  It can accommodate up to 5 guests; it has 2 separate rooms with 2 beds in one and three beds in the other, plus each has an old Wagon-wheel sofa which can be used as an extra bed.  Each room has its own kitchen and bathroom. The 2 rooms have a connecting door which allows for a group of 3 or 5 guests to be together or two separate groups to lock the door between them. Guests coming by themselves may share a room with another guest of the same gender - a surcharge applies for single occupancy.

Except for the "Bunkhouse Rental Only" option, you will find the bunkhouse fully stocked with food items you select from a Food List we send you, and will be able to fix your own breakfast and lunch at your leisure.  All evening meals are prepared by us and served in the main house.  Plan on arriving at the ranch between 4 pm and 6 pm, in time for supper (around 6 pm) -  departure by 10 am.  (This allows us time to prepare the bunkhouse for new arrivals - keep in mind we have no hired staff!)  No ranch activities on day of arrival and departure.  We cannot serve alcoholic beverages at supper, but you are welcome to bring your own.  The rates do not include any admission tickets or meals taken at any area events we may go to, such as rodeos etc. If you fly in, we highly recommend a car rental.  However, we can pick you up at the Greyhound bus station in Tucumcari at no charge.  Rates are subject to change without notice.

Cancellation policy: cancellation 90 days or more from scheduled arrival date - full refund less $100 cancellation fee which is retained; cancellation within 90 days of scheduled arrival date - full deposit retained.

This area is true cattle ranching country and does not offer many "tourist sites".  However, there are some places of interest within driving distance, as well as summer horse/rodeo activities.

Safety first!  With the somewhat rugged terrain, steep hills and canyons, we require that you have some prior riding experience, and out of concern for the horses, that you weigh no more than 230 lb. and be in reasonably good physical condition. You need to wear boots with well defined heels - tennis shoes or hiking boots are neither safe nor acceptable.  You will NOT be allowed on a horse with unsafe foot wear, no exceptions.  We recommend the use of a riding helmet, and have on hand a few helmets that meet ASTM/SEI standards. We cannot keep on hand enough helmets of every size and therefore suggest that you bring your own if you wish to wear one.  Guests will be required to read and sign a Liability Release before being allowed to go horseback riding.   Go here for Guest Comments
